26th Annual Graduate Student Association Research Symposium

About the Symposium
The annual GSA Research Symposium is held each year during the spring semester and is an interdisciplinary forum open to all SLU graduate students. This year's symposium will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020, in the Busch Student Center. Posters will be in the Wool Ballroom, and paper presentations will be in various rooms of the BSC. Every department with graduate degree programs is encouraged to participate. Judges are selected from SLU faculty to represent the variety of disciplines. Monetary awards are given to the first, second, and third place papers and posters in each category.
Call for Abstracts
Students may present either a paper or a poster. Each year's paper and poster presentations are divided into categories based on the distribution of the participants. The deadline for abstract submissions is February 21, 2020 at 11:59pm.

You may submit your abstract TBD; if the link is not working, copy and paste into your browser to access the submission form. If you are having trouble accessing the form, log into MySLU first, click on Tools, click on Google Drive, then come back to this page and click on our link.
You must submit your abstract electronically. There is no submission fee for abstracts and/or completed papers. Paper and poster abstracts must be submitted within the guidelines below for consideration and inclusion in the Research Symposium program. Please limit abstracts to no more than 200 words.
PLEASE DO NOT ATTACH YOUR ENTIRE PAPER.
Notification of acceptance of abstracts will be sent along with detailed guidelines for poster or paper presentations. A printed program of abstracts will be provided at the symposium.
Guidelines for Submission of Paper and Poster Abstracts
1. Presenters must be graduate students at Saint Louis University. (Faculty members should not be first author or be the main contact.)
2. Students may be first author/presenter on only 1 submission.
3. Abstracts must be titled (in the same way as poster/paper presentation).
4. Abstracts must be no more than 200 words. See http://arc.aje.com/make-great-first-impression-6-tips-writing-strong-abstract/ for assistance on developing a succinct abstract.
For those who will be presenting, please note the following:
For those with poster presentations, the poster boards are 4 feet tall by 6 feet wide. Posters should not be any larger than these dimensions. Any posters that go beyond either dimension will result in disqualification from the prizes.
For those with paper presentations, computers with PowerPoint will be available in each of the designated rooms (BSC 251A/B, 253A/B/C/D, 254). If you wish to use a presentation clicker, you will need to provide your own.
Check-ins will begin at 11 AM in the BSC Wool Ballroom. If possible, please arrive by 12 PM. Only main presenters need to check in with GSA.
Boxed lunches will be available starting at 11:30 AM and will be available until 12:15. Please note that we are only ordering enough lunches for the main presenters, judges, and certain volunteers.
At 12:15, all presenters should report to their posters or to their designated rooms for their papers. This year, all presentations will take place in the Busch Student Center.
The Symposium will be open to visitors starting at 12:30. All posters should be kept up until 3 PM. All paper presenters should remain in their respective rooms until all presentations in their session have been completed.
For both paper and poster presentations, each student will have a maximum of 15 minutes to present to the judges. You will have 10 minutes to present your research followed by 5 minutes of questions. Ushers and moderators will be keeping track of time.
Call for Faculty Judges
Faculty judges are needed from as many graduate departments as are able to send volunteers. At least one, but ideally two or more, faculty members are required from each department in order for the Symposium to run properly. Faculty need to volunteer by April 3, 2020 at 11:59pm, and can register here.
Call for Volunteers
Each department must send at least one student volunteer for the day of the Symposium. Typically, the department representative serves as volunteer, but if they are not available, an alternate must volunteer. Volunteers can sign-up here by April 3, 2020 at 11:59pm.
